Pearl Harbor Attractions

Pearl Harbor is situated in Oahu, an island in Hawaii. We all know the significance of Pearl Harbor. Yes, it was the US Naval Base that was attacked by the Japanese in the year 1941. They planned a surprise attack as they knew they would lose the battle if the Americans faced them fully armed. The USS Arizona Memorial: The USS Arizona Memorial is known to be the resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This attack was what led to the US involvement in the World War II. This memorial is accessible only by boat. The design of the memorial which was designed by Honolulu architect Alfred Preis is often called by the critics as a "squashed milk carton" due to its crushed shape.
The USS Bowfin: The USS Bowfin a fleet attack submarine, which is famously known as "The Pearl Harbor Avenger", is open to visitors at the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. USS Bowfin is the best preserved and the most visited submarine that served in the World War II. Both self-guided and audio tours of the submarine are available to the tourists.
The USS Battleship Missouri: It was on this battleship that General Douglas MacArthur accepted Japanese surrender which thereby led to the end of the World War II. Missouri is located next to the USS Arizona Memorial. A number of guided tours are available at the Memorial, one of which is the USS Missouri Tour. The visitors are given a chance to see the exact spot where the Japanese surrendered, thus making them virtually experience the incident.
The USS Oklahoma Memorial: This memorial is in honor of the 429 men who lost their lives aboard the Oklahoma, a battleship that sunk on the day of the Pearlharbor attack. After the USS Arizona, this was the battleship that lost the most number of lives.
Pacific Aviation Museum: Here visitors can view the history of the Pearl Harbor attack. The exhibition of Ford Island, the experience of flying in a flight simulator and the 10-minute movie on the Pearl Harbor attack are a few attractions of this museum.
